It is hard to imagine a world without a washing machine, which means that it is likely to be on the top appliances that you get for your home. The size of washing machine that you opt for will really depend on the size of your family, and there are also a wide variety of features and add ons that you can opt for in your choice of washing machine.

Fridge Freezer

Sounds like an obvious one of course, but a fridge freezer is one that you really need to have in your home. It keeps chilled food fresh and makes sure that your frozen food stays frozen. You may not need a huge fridge freezer, particularly if you live alone. You may even opt for a separate fridge and freezer, if you have room in the kitchen to spare.

Oven

If you want to eat, then you are going to need a way to cook it. A microwave oven is a good way to heat up food on the go, but if you want a way to cook proper meals then you are going to need an oven. These come in both electric and gas varieties and the one you go for may depend on the house you are moving into. You may also have to decide between one that is built into your kitchen and one that is freestanding. This will really depend on space that you have.

Considering all of the appliances that we have in today’s world, dishwasher have probably some of the most suspected faults that can actually be fixed quite simply, without need for an appliance repair expert.

Below you will find some simple problem areas to check, that will save you time and more importantly, not needing to call a repair company and spend money, if it can be sorted with a little care.

Dishwasher Rinse Aid

One of the main complaints we hear about is that the dishes are often ‘streaky’ after a wash cycle has finished. This is not really a fault as such, it is simply that there is either a lack of rinse aid or the dosage of the rinse aid per wash is set too low. So, first things first, make sure that there is actually enough rinse aid in the compartment. This is usually a screw top that sits next to the soap compartment and is normally located on the door. On that screw top, or inside, there is likely to be a dial that allows a different flow rate of rinse aid, the scale is typically numbered one to six. As a general rule of thumb, the harder the water supply the greater the amount of rinse aid will be required, therefore the higher the number on the scale.

Rinse aid acts to make the water wetter. It sounds silly, but there is science behind this, that is, it reduces the surface tension between the water and allows it to flow with less resistance.

This chemical science also allows us to see how important it is to the cleaning function of a dishwasher and therefore the need for using a good quality detergent and rinse aid as they play a key part in cleaning your dishes.
